A LOCAL auctioneer and antiques expert won Celebrity Mastermind to raise money for Worcester’s St Richard’s Hospice
Philip Serrell, who is a patron of St Richard’s, put his knowledge to the test in the tough gameshow, which was broadcast on BBC1 shortly after Christmas.
The Bargain Hunt and Flog It! auctioneer won the highest score in both the specialist round and general knowledge section – going on to accept the coveted trophy from quizmaster John Humphrys.
Mr Serrell said: “It was a terrifying experience but it was a wonderful opportunity to support St Richard’s Hospice, not only financially but also raising awareness of the charity on a national scale.”
The local auctioneer, who has offices in Worcester and Malvern, chose ‘England Rugby in the Six Nations 2000 to Date’ as his specialist category.
The prize money of £3,000 will support the hospice to continue its specialist care to patients living with life-limiting illnesses, their loved ones and bereaved people across Worcestershire.
Tricia Cavell, fund-raising director at St Richard’s, said: “We are thrilled Philip won Celebrity Mastermind – it certainly made exciting viewing! We are grateful for his generous and continued support of our care.”
Mr Serrell will be auctioneer at the Worcester Stands Tall auction event this October, in which decorated giraffe sculptures will be sold to raise money for St Richard’s.
St Richard’s Hospice provides free specialist palliative and end of life care for patients living with life-limiting illnesses and supports their loved ones. Each year the hospice team supports more than 3,000 patients, family members and bereaved people in Worcestershire.
