Popular Saturday Skip service returns to Worcester

Worcester Editorial 10th Jul, 2021   0

WORCESTER residents can once again use mobile skips to dispose of furniture and household goods.

The Saturday Skip service provides a free local disposal point for residents who are unable to transport bulky household waste items to Worcester’s Household Recycling Centres

Coun Marc Bayliss, leader of Worcester City Council said:  “We are making a £500,000 investment in cleaning up our city.  Part of this is the reintroduction of the Saturday Skip Service, making it easier for residents – especially those with no transport – to responsibly dispose of bulky goods.

“We believe the introduction of this flexible disposal service is an important step forward in our efforts to reducing fly tipping in Worcester.”

Every Saturday, the Skip will rotate around the following eight locations:  Shap Drive; Liverpool Road; King George V Playing Fields; Dines Green; Waverley Street; Weir Lane and Tolladine Road.

Business at the first service, which took place at Shap Drive on Saturday July 3, was brisk – with some families making repeat visits throughout the morning.

The following waste can be taken to Saturday Skips:

Non-recyclable waste general household / “black bag” waste

Garden waste – separated for composting

Metals – separated for recycling

Furniture

Hard plastics e.g. broken furniture and toys

Mattresses

Wood and timber – separated for recycling

Carpet

All waste will be segregated and taken either for composting, recycling or recovery at EnviRecover, the county’s Energy from Waste facility based at Hartlebury.
