Pub’s efforts are worth a toas

A WORCESTER pub raised more than £6,000 for Acorns Children’s Hospice to help it support children and their families across the city.

The Plumber’s Arms, on Wyld’s Lane, hosted an array of fund-raising activities over several months to raise the cash, which will go towards providing care and support for children and their families at the Bath Road hospice.

Some of the events the pub organised included quiz nights, raffles, football tournaments and darts competitions.

Landlady Christine Williams, whose daughter Julianne works as a nurse at Acorns, said: “Acorns is such a fantastic charity, so we thought it would be perfect to support its work.

“With my family connection, I know first-hand how important Acorns’ work is, so it’s a real pleasure to be able to help.

“We organised a lot of activities to raise the funds and it’s thanks to the enthusiasm and generosity of all the pub staff and regulars, that we’ve been able to reach this fantastic milestone.”

Mandie Fitzgerald, community fund-raising manager at Acorns, said: “We’re so grateful to Christine and everyone at the Plumber’s Arms for putting on such a brilliant year of fund-raising.

“As a charity we rely on the generosity of the local community to continue our work, so this amount will make a real difference,” she added.
