Raising the roof and some cash

YOUNGSTERS from an amateur drama society have raised £800 for charity.

Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society’s Youth Section (WODYS) raised the funds for Kinship Carers and presented them with their big cheque on Monday (August 10).

The whole cast of the groups latest production, Annie, attended to show their support for the charity’s army of family members who care for their young relatives when their biological parents are unable.

The county wide group help 86 families and are looking to grow and expand with a place in Worcester for their children to go and socialise and receive professional help.




Enza Smith, founder of Kinship Carers, said: “We are thrilled to be supported by WODYS through their excellent production of Annie. The money raised will enable us to further develop the Kinship youth group activities.

“The show was outstanding and we would like to thank all those involved from the production team to the band.”


WODYS hold a raffle during their productions every year and have so far raised £22,000 for various charities.

David Humphreys, WODYS chairman and producer of Annie, said: “I would like to thank everyone who bought raffle tickets during the show. Thanks to their generosity we raised £800.”

WODYS next show Les Miserables will be held next year and will raise money for another charitable cause.
