Retirement apartments planned for former bed centre site

Worcester Editorial 30th Jul, 2020   0

A MAJOR transformation of the land around the former Worcester Bed Centre on City Walls Road has been revealed with plans for 57 high-quality retirement apartments on the agenda.

McCarthy and Stone, the UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities, is showcasing its proposals to redevelop the site to provide Retirement Living PLUS (Extra Care) accommodation, specially designed to meet the needs of people in later life.

The apartments will be situated in the heart of the city centre with on-site parking and feature communal facilities such as a homeowners’ lounge, mobility scooter charging and storage room, guest suite and lift access to all floors.

Additional facilities included are 24-hour care provision, an on-site restaurant and a laundry room.

Under the initial plans, vehicle access to the scheme will be from St Martin’s Gate.

Matt Wills, divisional Managing Director at McCarthy and Stone said: “Our plans provide a fantastic opportunity to deliver much-needed specialist Retirement Living PLUS (Extra Care) accommodation on a brownfield city-centre site. The site is ideally located for people to access local shops and services with good public transport links across the wider region.” “

“We’re proposing a sensitive design that respects the historic character of the local area. We want to hear local views before we finalise our planning application. I’d encourage people to go online and view the virtual exhibition where they’ll be able to complete our online feedback form.”

McCarthy and Stone has a wealth of experience delivering retirement accommodation. Their developments allow people to retain the independence and privacy of their own home, with the knowledge that support, if needed, is on hand.

The local community is encouraged to find out more and provide their feedback at our virtual public exhibition which will be available online until Wednesday, August 12 at www.mccarthyandstoneconsultation.co.uk/worcester.

The online exhibition will also include a live chat session on Tuesday (August 4) between 1pm and 5pm where people will be able to speak directly with a member of the project team.

Anyone who is unable to view the plans online but would like further information can call 0800 298 7040.
