Services will have limited capacity

Worcester Editorial 16th May, 2020   0

THE TRAIN service between Hereford and Birmingham will resume on Monday when a new timetable is introduced by West Midlands Railway.

Passengers are being reminded public transport is still only to be used for essential journeys and if they have no other option.

With social distancing measures in place, capacity will be limited.

The Hereford to Birmingham New Street service, which includes Worcester, Great Malvern, Malvern Link, Bromsgrove and Droitwich, was temporarily halted last month.

In addition to that change, there will now be three trains-an-hour on the Cross City Line – two to Redditch and one to Bromsgrove – with two-an-hour in the evening.

Users are also being urged to wear face coverings while travelling, avoid travelling at peak times and buy their tickets in advance, online.

There will also be one-way systems at some stations.

Jonny Wiseman, West Midlands Railway’s customer experience director, said: “I would like to thank all the people who have stayed away from the railway during the national emergency.

“Since the travel restrictions have been in place we’ve been able to help thousands of key workers make essential journeys across the region.

“The well-being of our customers and staff is our top priority which is why we are asking our passengers to act considerately and think very carefully if they really need to travel by train.”

The new timetables are available to view online at www.wmr.uk/coronavirus .
