Sign up to shine light into lives

Worcester Editorial 13th Nov, 2015 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

WORCESTER residents are being invited to take place in the city’s first ever charity lantern walk.

Acorns Children’s Hospice is hosting its biggest and brightest fund-raising event of the year this Saturday (November 14), where hundreds of walkers will join together to light up Worcester Racecourse, carrying their glowing lanterns as they walk either a 5km or 12km route in aid of Acorns.

The walk will help to provide vital funds for the charity to continue the care and support it gives life-limited and life-threatened children and their families across the county.

The 12km route will involve a visit to the Bath Road charity, while the 5km route will include family friendly games to play along the way.

The event is being sponsored by First Personnel, ensuring all money raised will go towards the £9million a year needed to run Acorns’ three hospices.

Laura Heathfield, Acorns’ events manager said: “The lantern walk is going to be a magical event and Acorns is encouraging people to sign up now to let their support shine through in aid of local life-limited children and their families.”

The event will be begin at 1pm and will feature stalls, games, refreshments and entertainment to celebrate the occasion.

Walkers will set off at 3.30pm.

Individual registration costs £10 and each participant will be given a battery operated orange lantern, an Acorns Lantern Walk t-shirt and a medal as they cross the finish line.

Families of four can register for £30, and families of five can sign up for £40.
