Sonya’s helping to support the refugees forced out of Ukraine

A DEVOTED care assistant at Bluebird Care Worcester and Wychavon has been working tirelessly to support Ukrainian refugees in Poland.

Since the start of the conflict, more than 10 million Ukrainian people have been forced to flee their homes to neighbouring countries.

Among those nations to welcome people in has been Poland, where an estimated 2.5million refugees have crossed over the border. However, as a result of this significant influx of refugees entering into the country, the need to support and aid these vulnerable people has grown exponentially.

Among those individuals who have stepped up to support the ongoing efforts has been Sonya McCormick-Piechowiak from the home care provider Bluebird Care Worcester and Wychavon.

Sonya has been helping Lorraine and Greg Staniek at the Bourton Vale Equine Clinic, by organising donations and supplies to be transported to two towns in Poland.

After hearing about the Russian soldiers amassing on the Ukrainian border, Sonya immediately felt an urge to help. With a strong Eastern European heritage, she empathised with the people of Ukraine and was eager to do whatever she could to care and support those threatened by war.

Sonya has provided expert knowledge which will ensure the accurate and appropriate delivery of supplies to Poland.

In addition to this, she has also worked hard to galvanise further support for the cause from her colleagues, customers, and the local community. Now inundated with donations every single day and with her home a hub for collections from members of the public eager to help, Sonya’s efforts to support the Ukrainian people has been truly inspirational.

Andy Toon, registered care manager at Bluebird Care Worcester and Wychavon, said: “When she comes to the office, she always has a smile on her face and is in an amazing cheerful mood. This never fluctuates at all. This is also reflected onto the customers she visits and looks after.”

“I am personally so proud of the work Sonya is doing to support the people of Ukraine, but at the same time I am not shocked because Sonya is one of the kindest human beings that I have ever met. Well done Sonya and keep up the good work! We are all so proud of you!”

Donations can be sent to Bourton Vale Equine Clinic, Wyck Road Lower Slaughter Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, GL542EX or call 07880808943 for more.
