Speed measures come into force

Worcester Editorial 25th Feb, 2021   0

A CLAMPDOWN on speeding in Bedwardine has been launched thanks to five new speed cameras funded by a leading county councillor.

Coun Alan Amos responded to local concerns over speeding and selfish and dangerous parking around Pitmaston Primary School with the introduction of five new VAS signs.

Signs have been put up on Malvern Road, Swinton Lane, Hanbury Park Road and Bransford Road, with a final one due in Bromwich Road in the coming weeks.

“We have taken residents’ advice on the best locations to put them up. We will be monitoring the results and will take further action if necessary,” Coun Amos said.

For the first time in the county, a mobile CCTV van will be used to enforce the yellow ‘School Keep Clear’ signs around Pitmaston Primary School.

Anyone parking around the signs will automatically be ticketed and will receive a penalty charge notice about a week later. No stopping signs and enforcement camera warning signs are already in place ahead of the reopening of the school next month.

“Of course, we hope drivers will park considerately so no tickets will need to be issued. A little bit of a walk to the school gate is very good for both children and parents,” Coun Amos added.
