Staff and holidaymakers hit by Thomas Cook collapse

Worcester Editorial 27th Sep, 2019   0

HOLIDAYMAKERS across Worcester and staff working for Thomas Cook at their branch in the city have been affected after the troubled travel firm collapsed.

The Worcester branch failed to open for business on Monday (September 23) after news of the demise was confirmed after company chiefs failed to find the estimated £200million demanded by lenders to keep the holiday firm afloat.

Holiday makers will be flown home as part of one of the largest peace time repatriations ever undertaken by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) while those who had paid a deposit for a future holiday have been told their holidays have been cancelled.

In a statement, the CAA said: “The Government and the Civil Aviation Authority are now working together to do everything we can to support passengers due to fly back to the UK with Thomas Cook between September 23 and October 6.

“Depending on your location, this will be either on CAA-operated flights or by using existing flights with other airlines. If you are already abroad you will find all the information you need about your arrangements to get home on our website.”

“If you are due to depart from a UK airport with Thomas Cook Airlines, please do not travel to your UK airport as your flight will not be operating and you will not be able to travel.

“We are sorry to inform you that all future holidays and flights booked with Thomas Cook are cancelled as of September 23.

“If you are booked on a Thomas Cook Airlines flight, please do not go to your UK airport, as your flight will not be operating. The Civil Aviation Authority’s repatriation programme will not include any outbound flights from the UK.

“If you choose to book a new flight with another airline out of the UK, you will not be eligible for a repatriation flight,” the statement added.
