Stepping up for the annual Crowle 10k

RUNNERS from across the county are on their marks and getting set for the popular annual Crowle Gunpowder Plot 10k and two family fun runs.

This year’s event on Sunday, May 8 will see the event staged for the 14th time and has already attracted more than 300 entries in advance for the 10k race.

Organisers are ready to accept large numbers of entries on the day too and hope to emulate the nearly 900 runners who put their best foot forward for last year’s event and raised more than £7,000 for local causes.

Money raised from this year’s event will be donated to charities to boost sporting and social facilities for local parishioners.

Ali Mcindoe, who is the event co-organiser with Caroline Brookes, said: “The 10k and fun runs event has something for everyone.

“Each year we attract elite runners, club runners and fun runners from locally and much further afield and they bring their children too who can take part in the quarter or one mile races and have fun in safety on the village playing field and playground.

“And, of course, we attract many spectators too.”

The 10k, which will start at 11.30am, will follow the same scenic, rural route as in previous years, starting and finishing on the playing field in Crowle.

The run will once again be held under Athletic Association rules and time-tracking chips allocated to all 10k runners will record their times.

The two fun runs will take place before the 10k at 10.30am – A quarter mile for young children and their adult helpers and a more serious, timed, one-mile race for under 16s.

All fun run finishers will be awarded a prize and in each run a trophy for the first three boys and first three girls will be presented.

Both of the fun runs will take place on a circuit around the village playing field.

A barbecue (including vegetarian), cakes, hot and cold drinks and bouncy castle will also be available on the day and runners can register or pick up their numbers and timing chips from 9.30am on May 8.
