Still time to sign up for Worcester marathon challenge

A POPULAR Worcester charity is encouraging runners to go the extra mile to help raise vital funds.

Acorns Children’s Hospice is calling on the city’s fitness fanatics to take part in the Worcester Marathon or Worcester Half Marathon, on Sunday, May 22.

The Bath Road charity, which provides specialist care for life-limited and life-threatened children, needs to raise more than £9million each year to operate, and relies on public fund-raising to meet the majority of the cost.

The races, organised by Tempo Events, are an alternative to the Acorns Triple Run, which incorporated the Malvern Half Marathon and was retired in 2015 after ten successful years.

Louise Arnold, director of fund-raising at Acorns said: “The crowds, the glory and the sense of achievement are all things which make the Worcester runs such a great occasion.

“We’re hoping lots of people sign up and make this an extra special day for the children and families who rely on Acorns services.

“As we reach the end of January, many people’s New Year’s resolutions fail, so this is the perfect opportunity to reignite those fitness pledges.”

The marathon and half marathon will start at 9.30am from Sixways Stadium.
