Super effort to help out hospice

Worcester Editorial 24th May, 2018   0

SUPERHEROES from across Worcester assembled for some out-of-this-world fund-raising.

The annual Free Radio, Cash for Kids Superhero Day saw supporters up and down the city join friends and colleagues for a spot of fancy dress, lots of fun and games, and all for a good cause.

Fifty per cent of funds raised from the day will be donated by Cash for Kids to Acorns Children’s Hospice, towards the charity’s work caring for life limited and life threatened children across the Midlands.

Joining in the day’s festivities were children, families, staff and volunteers at Acorns for the Three Counties in Bath Road as well as staff and volunteers at Acorns charity shops – including St Peter’s and in the city centre.

Lynne Carter, Acorns head of fund-raising, said: “It was fantastic to see so many budding supermen and women getting together to make a difference today and great to see so many imaginative costumes and fund-raising ideas.

“It costs us nearly £10million every year to provide our vital services, so a huge thanks to all our superheroes and Free Radio Cash for Kids for their wonderful support.”

Cash for Kids is a registered charity, which provides grants to community projects and small charities supporting children who may be living in poverty or with a serious illness or disability.

John Stratton, regional fund-raising manager for Free Radio Cash for Kids, said: “The money raised will make a real difference to local children supported by Acorns, along with the other projects and small charities across the area that will be helped through our grant giving programme.”

In the past year Acorns has cared for more than 870 children and more than 1,090 families, including those who are bereaved.
