A WORCESTER independent school will welcome a special guest to a one-off event in Droitwich when former pupil and 2017 MasterChef Australia finalist Arum Nixon cooks up a storm at a culinary evening.
The River School in Worcester will host the event at Churchfields Farm next Thursday (September 27) from 7pm with live classical music and an auction also on the menu.
Arum will spill the beans on some of his pantry essentials and will whip up two dishes inspired by those who made on MasterChef, including a porcini ice cream which helped to springboard him into finals week on the show.
There will be an opportunity for a question and answer session before enjoying Arum’s dishes and all who attend will receive free recipe cards. The 35-year-old was brought up in Claines and graduated from The River School in 1998. He then went on to study Geography at Oxford University.
A gap year in Nigeria working for the Department of International Development gave him a unique appreciation of food. He regularly dined on dishes including goat head curry with eyeballs. Arum returned to London at the age of 22 and began his career in marketing.
In 2011 he moved down under with his partner Fiona, settling in Sydney where they live today and came fifth in Masterchef Australia last year.
“I’m excited to be back in my home town to share my experiences of making it to the finals of MasterChef Australia, and at the same point support The River School,” Arum said.
“I have many happy memories of my time there, small class sizes meant a real sense of community and togetherness which is unique and it’s a great opportunity to give back to the school in a small way.
