ONE OF the city’s entertainment kings has pledged to complete dozens of challenges to celebrate the Swan Theatre’s 50th birthday.

Chris Jaeger, chief executive of Worcester Live, appeared with local antiques Guru Phil “The Fox” Serrell in an edition of BBC1’s Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, which aired on Friday (February 20).

The episode shows Phil Serrell doing a deal with Chris for a theatre light, purchased from an antiques fair, in a bid to beat Kate Bliss in an antiques face off. After some haggling the TV presenter left the theatre happy and Chris was left with a new prop to use on stage.

2015 sees the Golden Anniversary of the Swan, which first opened its doors in June 1965.

There will be a host of celebratory events and fundraising and Chris has vowed to complete 50 sponsored challenges during the year with the final challenge being to raise a staggering £50,000 to aid theatre funds.

“It is an absolute privilege to be the director of the theatre during this very special year,” Chris said.

“There have been some extremely challenging times for the Swan over the last half century but it delights me to say that the theatre is currently in a stable position and will hopefully be opening its doors to the good people of Worcester for the next 50 years. I might not be around for the centenary celebrations though.”

Some of the other challenges Chris has set himself include trying to get 50,000 Twitter followers, learn to juggle and shave his eyebrows off.

He has also written a book about the history of the theatre to commemorate the anniversary.
