Time called on New Chequers ahead of revamp

Worcester Editorial 19th Feb, 2019   0

THE FORMER managers of a city pub have called last orders for four and half weeks ahead of a £186,000 revamp to breathe new life into the venue.

Sue and Andy Cadman have become the licencees of The New Chequers on Astwood Road and the Star Pubs & Bars & Bars1 pub will re-open on March 22.

The pair initially moved to The New Chequers as temporary managers at the end of 2017 but to their surprise they fell in love with the pub and decided to stay on.

And when the opportunity arose, they decided to take on The New Chequers themselves.

“We didn’t know when we took up the temporary job we would be making the New Chequers our long-term home,” Sue said.

“No-one thought we’d ever leave the Black Country, but when we came here we fell in love with the pub and community and so gave up our other pub.

“We really like the relaxed atmosphere of living in Worcester. The pub has a wonderful feel to it and we have some really lovely customers who made us feel welcome from day one,” she added.

The New Chequers will offer food for the first time with the appointment of two chefs while a new all-weather garden, patio area and entrance to the pub are being created.

As part of the revamp, the bar and lounge are being redecorated while the function room will be given a complete overhaul.
