A BRAWL on Foregate Street led to a man being taken to hospital by ambulance.
Cameron Dhanda, of Jackdaw Lane in Droitwich, pleaded guilty at Worcester Magistrates Court on Friday (August 14) to assault.
Angela Hallam, prosecuting, told the court the defendant and the victim happened to be at the McDonald’s at the same time on July 26 after going to a nightclub in the city.
The court heard the victim said he remembered getting into an argument with someone who pushed him and appeared to be angry with him leading to a verbal altercation.
The court heard how he left and later saw a fight going on further down the road, he did not know what had happened but went to see if there was anything he could do to break it up.
Magistrates heard how the victim then remembered being on the floor and people asking him if he needed help.
Emergency services were called and an ambulance took him to accident and emergency.
He was left with cuts to his lip and forehead above his right eyebrow. It was his friends who provided a detailed described of a young Asian man who was kicking and punching the victim who was on the floor in the foetal position. They also said there were three other men involved in the fight.
A witness said her brother tried to break the fight up and she was able to identify Dhanda, she said she saw him punch and kick the victim and run off.
When interviewed Dhanda said he heard a friend had been hit and went to find out what was going on, there was some pushing and shoving both ways, he remembered headbutting someone but not kicking.
He was shown CCTV of him headbutting the victim which he admitted and showed remorse for.
Defence solicitor, Mark Turnbull, said: “There were several people involved in the incident and so it is difficult to establish who did what.
“In one statement a witness describes seeing Mr Dhanda wearing a light grey, long sleeved jumper, jeans and boots.
“Another witness describes seeing a male in a white shirt punching another male on the floor at least three times before leaving the scene.
“There were a number of people involved in this matter, a lot of things going on. He only became involved because a friend of his was getting thrown into this and admitted to the headbutt before he was shown CCTV”
“He received a number of injuries to the face, reddening of the eye which was very blood shot.”
Chair of the bench, Vicki Quarton, gave Dhanda a six month community order with 20 hours of unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay £100 in compensation to the victim, a £60 victim surcharge, £85 in prosecution costs and £150 in court costs.
