Urban Dictionary name meaning: Why people are posting on Twitter and Instagram, and how to find yours

Worcester Editorial 23rd Nov, 2021   0

DESPITE being around since the late 90s, Urban Dictionary is currently seeing a surge in popularity thanks to a new trend on Instagram and Twitter.

People have been searching their names on the platform and then sharing the results on the social media sites

Why? Because the results are almost always extremely complimentary!

For example, a search for Robert reveals the following: “The most caring and sweet guy you’ll ever know.

“He’ll do anything for the people he loves and tell them how much they mean to him. When he loves, he loves with his whole heart and gives it to you hoping you won’t break it.”

People are sharing screenshots of their Urban Dictionary name definition on Instagram, along with a sticker encouraging others to do the same.

Twitter users are also sharing their definitions with the caption: “Show your name in Urban Dictionary, here’s mine”.

Despite the mostly morale-boosting results, posts mocking the trend are getting far more traction than people actually participating.

Urban Dictionary definitions can be posted by users. Most definitions for names are from the early 2010s and are largely people writing nice things about partners, friends and family members… and probably sometimes themselves.
