JUBILANT fans of the Worcester Warriors shared their thoughts and feelings on the promotion deciding game against Bristol, in the climax of one of the closest Championship campaigns to date.

A packed out Sixways stadium of 12,024, watched the drama unfold on Wednesday (May 27), as 26 games came down to the wire and saw Worcester achieve promotion back to the Premiership in the fist time of asking by just one point over rivals Bristol.

Emotion was high throughout the 80 minutes as the sell-out crowd played the role of the 16th man to push the Warriors over the line in the thrilling contest that saw Worcester prevail 59-58 on aggregate, after a 30-30 draw on the night.

Warriors fan, Stephen Morris, from Worcester said: “I’ve supported Worcester for about 20 years now, and that was one of the best performances I’ve seen. I was there last week and that was a brilliant game as well. You’ve got to feel sorry for Bristol, but come on you Warriors!”

Lewis Elliott, 23, from Worcester said: “The game had its ups and downs but in the end we prevailed like last week and absolutely killed it. The boys did us proud.

“Bristol fought hard but in the end we came back and we earned it, so well done to the boys.”

Stephen Albert, 24, from Bromsgrove said: “What a result, absolutely fantastic. Two minutes to go I thought we were down and out but what a turnaround that was. Back in the Premiership, come on Warriors!”

The season always looked to be a two-horse race between the Warriors and their West Country rivals, but it wasn’t just the teams that turned up week after week to give it their all.

Andrew Kilminster from Worcester, thought Bristol supporters matched the Warriors fans as much as the teams did on the field.

“The game was fantastic, the Bristol supporters have been the best throughout the Championship,” he said.

“Worcester played really well and worked really hard. Again they made it a little bit tough for themselves towards the end, but eventually our skill pulled through.

“Credit to the Bristol fans, they’ve made this Championship what it is. We’ve lost to them through the season but when it was important we went out and won. It was an absolute pleasure to share that moment with them,” he added.
