A POPULAR Worcester pub which has played host to General Election hustings is in new hands after being sold to a city business.

Christie & Co has completed on the sale of the Cap ‘n’ Gown on The Tything to new owners Bar 45 Worcester Ltd.

The venue was put up for sale in March after landlord Ted Marshall closed the doors to move on to run The New Inn in Shrawley.

A popular and well established venue for real ale and live music, the Cap ‘n’ Gown has a loyal following of locals and quality beer enthusiasts.

Sitting close to the Worcester Foregate train station, the bar is a prominent establishment drawing in passers-by and those enjoying the city’s thriving nightlife.

Bar 45 Worcester chiefs have revealed a complete refurbishment is on the cards with an emphasis on providing good quality products in a relaxed environment whilst showcasing sporting events.

“We are existing operators in Worcester and look forward to putting this pub back on the map under its original name, ‘The Feathers’. We intend on opening near to the end of the summer period,” a company spokesman said.

Joshua Sullivan, senior business agent at Christie & Co handled the sale and said: “We conducted a comprehensive marketing campaign, and shortly became inundated with enquiries which led to an attractive offer from a local experienced operator. The venue proved to be popular due to its city centre location.”

“I wish Bar 45 Worcester all the very best with their new acquisition, and I have no doubt that it will be a success following their plans to develop the business further.”
