West Midlands Railway to introduce new services and longer trains as lockdown restrictions ease

Worcester Editorial 9th May, 2021   0

DOZENS of new and longer services are being introduced by West Midlands Railway to help get the region moving again as lockdown restrictions ease.

A new timetable comes into force on Sunday, May 16, introducing additional trains on routes via Birmingham Solihull.

On some routes, such as trains between Birmingham and Shrewsbury, existing services will be made longer.

Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director for WMR, said: “Our new timetable has been specifically designed to step up capacity on the services and routes which need it most as more restrictions lift.

“We look forward to welcoming our customers back to the railway but we must be realistic that even with this extra capacity, social distancing will not be possible on the busiest services.

“This is why it is important for passengers to plan ahead and travel at quieter times if they can to help maximise the space available.”

Among the changes passengers returning to the railway may notice are enhanced cleaning regimes and one-way systems at some larger stations.

Timetables are available to view on www.wmr.uk/timetables now.
