Wheels of creativity in full flow as children design future cycles

Worcester Editorial 23rd Jul, 2021   0

CREATIVE youngsters were challenged to saddle up and design the bikes of the future to mark the launch of Crowngate Shopping Centre’s cycle storage

The centre recently opened its secure storage venue and to celebrate the grand opening they invited children up to the age of 16 to get their creative juices flowing.

All entries were reviewed and judged by Worcester Cycles, with the prize sponsored by Evotech.

The winning entry was designed by Annie Simons, aged 10 who won bikes and cycle helmets for all her family.

The Cycle Storage unit, which is a community hub for cyclists to share information about local cycle clubs, cycle groups, local cycle routes and information, will display all the entries inside the unit.

Centre manager Mike Lloyd, said: “We saw some fantastic entries for this competition, and we enjoyed seeing all the wonderful ideas the children had, making it a very difficult decision to decide on the winner.

“The Cycle Storage has proven to be very popular with the community as we see the popularity of cycling continue to increase in Worcester and the unit know means people can cycle into the city knowing they have somewhere secure to store their bike.”

Matt Carver, regional director at Evotech, said: “As maintenance contractors for the centre, our mechanical and electrical engineers have supported the unit installation and installed a brand-new CCTV system for additional security alongside a cycle maintenance station.

“Evotech is thrilled to sponsor the ‘Bike of the Future’ competition, and Annie’s design, which was so detailed and well thought out, stood out as the clear winner.

“I hope her and all her family gain much enjoyment from the bikes Annie is able to purchase with her £1,000 prize voucher.”

Located close to the Angel Place entrance, the unit comprises ground hoops, dedicated CCTV, power points for charging e-bicycle, and a cycle repair station for inflating tyres and making any further necessary bike adjustments whilst out and about.
