Why Greenpeace Worcester wants to see more work on a greener future for all

MEMBERS of Greenpeace Worcester group took part in the University of Worcster’s Go Green Week.

Visitors to their stand wrote messages on the green hearts stating they don’t want to lose out to climate change. Meanwhile several members of the group carried out a ‘community litter-pick’.

Greenpeace Worcester Group is calling on the Government to implement a just transition away from fossil fuels to renewables.

They want a nationwide programme to make people’s homes warmer and more energy efficient and investment in green public transport, walking and cycling.

Greenpeace volunteers also want to see a reduction in single-use plastic of at least 50 per cent by 2025.

In the short-term, campaigners have also called for a windfall tax on big oil and gas companies with the money raised used to help people who are struggling to pay their bills due to the energy price rise.

A Greenpeace Worcester spokesperson said: “The climate crisis can feel scary, but any action or event is a really powerful way to call on decision-makers, from Worcester City Council to pressurise the UK Government.

“We want our Government to actually deliver on our legally-binding climate targets and create a better, fairer, greener world for everyone.’”
