A COURAGEOUS team of employees from a leading Worcester energy firm took on the gruelling challenge of cycling from London to Paris to raise more than £50,000 for charity.
The group from npower’s city office recently joined-up with 40 other cyclists to take on the mammoth 195 mile route to raise £53,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Starting at the London Eye, the three-day challenge took the intrepid team through scenic English and French countryside, before finishing at the Eiffel Tower in the heart of Paris.
Each team member had an individual fund-raising target of £400 which they collectively surpassed reaching £26,500, before npower matched the funding.
Bradley Faulks, a senior estate surveyor at npower’s Worcester office said: “Just like many of my colleagues, I’ve had many family members and friends affected by cancer.
“What I love about Macmillan is the selfless approach from its volunteers, nurses and members of staff who make sure people don’t have to face the disease on their own. I enjoyed being able to give something back to such a wonderful organisation.”
Simon Homer, a business change analyst also from the Worcester site said: “I’ve had no better feeling than I did passing the finish line at the Eiffel Tower and seeing a sea of green Macmillan t-shirts.
“Completing nearly 200 gruelling miles was fully worth the pain knowing we would raise so much money for an amazing charity. It’s a trip I’ll never forget.”
Clare McDougall, npower’s head of community said: “Our very own ‘Tour de France’ was an incredibly tough challenge. We all stretched ourselves to the limit, but it was worth it and I’m so proud of each and every colleague who took part.”
