A WORCESTER man has become the seventh member of a drugs ring to be put behind bars.

Wayne Billingsley, of Princes Drive, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply cocaine and heroin on September 11 last year and was sentenced to three years and four months in prison on Wednesday.

The 41-year-old’s sentence follows the conviction of the other six men from Birmingham on Friday, February 12, who received a total of 47 years in jail for conspiracy to supply drugs in Worcestershire and Humberside, following an investigation by the Serious Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) of Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police.

Det Insp Carl Moore, the senior investigating officer said: “The SOCU actively targets organised criminals of this kind in order to prevent them continuing to cause harm in our communities.

“The sentences reflect the serious nature of the offences committed and the harm caused as a result of these defendants’ actions.”

Billingsley was also sentenced to four years for a separate offence of attempted robbery at a cashpoint on the city’s St Martin’s Square on November 5 last year and another year in custody for possession of a knife.

Billingsley’s 48-year-old accomplice, Adam Roberts, of Thomas Baxter Close, Worcester, was also sentenced to four years in custody for the attempted robbery and two and a half years for a separate offence of affray from April last year.
