Worcester set to swelter by the end of the week as heat sweeps in from Europe

WORCESTER looks set to swelter this week with Friday likely to be the hottest day of 2022 so far.

Temperatures look set to hit 30 degrees Celsius at the end of the week as the country bathes in hot air and warm sunshine straight from Iberia in the south-west of Europe.

However it looks like this week will be a brief taste of summer as cooler, wetter weather will arrive just in time for the weekend.

Temperatures will steadily climb from the early 20s today (Tuesday) up into the mid 20s by Thursday (June 16) with Friday expected to top 30 degrees across Worcestershire.

The current spell of warm weather is expected to reach its peak at the end of the week with parts of the South East seeing temperatures in excess of 30 degrees.

Temperatures would need to beat 35.6C (96.1F) to break the record for the UK’s hottest June day, which was recorded in Southampton in 1976.

It comes as parts of Europe are also experiencing extreme heat – with Spain in the grips of a heatwave as temperatures top 40C, and the hot weather set to spread to parts of southern France from Tuesday.

Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Dan Rudman, said; “Temperatures will rise through the week, becoming well above-average by day by Friday when many parts of the southern half of the UK are likely to reach 30C or even 33C in isolated spots.”

“This is the first spell of hot weather this year and it is still unusual for temperature to exceed these values in June.

“Many areas will also see some warm nights with temperatures expected to be in the mid to high teens overnight,” he added.
