Work on £150million Shrub Hill regeneration set for March

Worcester Editorial 16th Feb, 2022   0

DEVELOPERS behind the ambitious £150million transformation of Shrub Hill have revealed work will begin as soon as next month, subject to the green light from Worcester’s planning chiefs.

The long-awaited Sherriff Gate scheme includes hundreds of new apartments, shops, a multi-screen cinema, food and beverage outlets, a 20,000 sq ft gym, a 200 bed hotel and also a multi storey car park with space for more than 850 cars on site with electric charging points.

Worcester’s largest multi-million regeneration already has full detailed planning approval but must wait for the final sign off from Worcester City Council’s planning committee meeting on Thursday (February 24).

The huge project will bring hundreds of jobs to the city, and provide much needed housing for the people of Worcester.

More than 200 one and two bedroom homes to get young house hunters in Worcester onto the property ladder will mark the first chapter of the ambitious revamp.

Funding to deliver the entire scheme is now in place and this will deliver 468 new homes. Under the already granted full planning consent for the entire development, demolition and site clearance has been completed for phase one.

Once contractor Elliott Group has delivered the first 213 homes, the second phase of the scheme will see affordable homes developed on the site.

Developers have revealed the first 213 homes will generate some £340,000 per year for Worcester City Council in Council Tax and the project is expected to generate significant new employment and training opportunities.

Stennard Harrison, managing director of Worcester-based Sherriff Gate Developments said: “We are very excited after many years of dedicated hard work by many people and organisations, this project, which is very dear to my heart, will once and for all commence this March.

“Shrub Hill was included as one of the major areas for regeneration in the Worcester City Centre masterplan and we are delighted to be bringing this to fruition in partnership with the City Council.

“Phase one of the site has already been cleared for work to commence on the first of 213 apartments.

“We have in excess of 100 men ready to uplift one of the major gateways into Worcester.

“This project is fantastic news for the city and this will start the complete continuity of the whole development.”
