Andrew to depart New Road

PEARS all-rounder Gareth Andrew will not be offered a new contract when his current deal expires at the end of this season.

Yeovil-born Andrew moved to New Road from Somerset in 2008 and three years later was runner-up in the PCA Most Valuable Player Rankings behind Marcus Trescothick.

However, his number of appearances have been restricted in recent seasons because of a knee injury and then the lumbar pedicle fracture in his back which has recently required surgery.

Worcestershire Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes said: “When Gareth has been fit, he has made an important contribution to the side.

“We appreciate the struggle Gareth has had with injuries and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Andrew said: “I’ve loved eight seasons here but the last few years have been hugely frustrating for me.

“Worcester is where I call home now and I am gutted to be leaving.

“It’s the start of a new chapter and I’ve got the rest of my career ahead of me.

“I look forward to being fit in November which will allow me to take part in a full pre-season programme elsewhere.”

The 31-year-old has scored a total of 4,891 runs and taken 422 wickets across all formats of the game.
