Chairman's delight at potential return of fans to New Road

Worcester Editorial 28th Feb, 2021   0

PEARS chairman Fanos Hira has revealed the club’s delight at members and supporters’ potentially returning to watch cricket at New Road from mid-May.

Step three of the Government’s Road Map indicates stadiums with a capacity of under 16,000 can welcome back at best 50 per cent of capacity from May 17 if all goes to plan.

There is then the optimal potential for all stadiums’ full capacity to return under Step Four of the Government guidelines from June 21.

Mr Hira said: “We are very excited about the prospect of members and supporters coming to watch us play. There are still quite a few unknowns, but things are getting a lot clearer, and it’s potentially very good news for us.

He said the needs of spectators would be well0catered for when they return to New Road.

“When members can return, they will undoubtedly have priority if capacity is restricted, the offering will be a little bit different too, and hopefully, a bit better.

“We are looking at systems where you can order drink and food from your seat, and it will be brought directly to you. There are lots of options and scenarios we are looking at for improving the member and supporter experience.

“Staff at the club have all worked hard to plan for all sorts of eventualities for the return of spectators.”

Mr Hira said the Worcestershire CCC squad are looking forward to playing in front of their supporters again for the first time since September 2019.

He said: “There has been a real buzz around the playing squad over the last couple of days; the players are really excited about the prospect of playing in front of crowds, as is everyone at the club.
