City handed potential FA Cup tie with Chesterfield

Worcester Editorial 8th Dec, 2014 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

Worcester City will face Chesterfield at home in the third round of the FA Cup, if they overcome Scunthorpe United in their second round replay.

The Blue and Whites drew 1-1 with their North Lincolnshire opponents yesterday (Sunday) and if they overcome the Iron at Aggborough next Wednesday (December 17) they will do battle with the Spireites in Kidderminster.

It will be the third time in this competition they will come up against League One opposition, having beaten Coventry City 2-1 in the first round and securing a draw against Mark Robins’ men at Glanford Park in the second round.

However, The draw, which was made live on BBC2 tonight (Monday), does throw up an interesting scenario for the Blue and Whites.

Chesterfield fielded an ineligible player in their 1-0 cup victory over MK Dons on Saturday (December 6) and have subsequently been charged by the FA for a breach of the competition rules.

As things stand, they are currently still in the historic trophy, but a decision on their participation is expected within the coming days, with the Dons likely to be reinstated should Chesterfield be taken out of the competition.

They have untilĀ 5pm on Thursday (December 11) to respond to the charge.
