City target a third win in a row

RESURGENT Worcester City head to Shepshed Dynamo this weekend seeking a third Midland League Premier Division victory on the spin.

The Blue and Whites downed their Leicestershire opponents 2-0 last season and John Snape’s men will be hoping for more of the same when the two teams meet at the Dovecote Stadium on Saturday.

After three games without a win, City claimed their first three points of the season last Tuesday night with a 1-0 victory over Coventry Sphinx before backing the result up with a 3-1 success over Stourport Swifts at the Victoria Ground on Bank Holiday Monday.

Snape was missing from the side lines but his side only needed 18 minutes to break the deadlock when Jordan Harrison swept home from six yards following some good work from Tyler Weir after he burst his way into the penalty area.

However, as half-time approached, Swifts levelled things up when Jack Downing finished off a nice move from the visitors.

The Blue and Whites regained the advantage just before the hour mark when goal scorer Harrison turned provider as his low cross was finished off at the near post by Dave Reynolds.

Swifts were then reduced to ten men with 23 minutes remaining after substitute Umit Eminoglu was given his marching orders for a clumsy challenge on Reynolds just seconds after coming on.

City made the extra man count in the 86th minute when substitute James Baldwin forced the ball home from Kyonn Evans’ cross to make it 3-1.

The drama was far from over, though, when in the fourth minute of stoppage time Swifts striker Andy Nicol was given a straight red card for a late tackle on Harrison.

After the trip to Shepshed, City welcome Wolverhampton side AFC Wulfrunians to the Victoria Ground on Wednesday night.
