HOT PROSPECT Myles Edwards has decided to progress his career in France after agreeing to join Top 14 outfit La Rochelle.
The towering young lock made his debut for the Worcester Cavaliers last season when he featured in their victory over Northampton Saints in March.
The 18-year-old’s appearance in a Worcester jersey caused a stir with the Sixways faithful, with many comparing him to promising lock Christian Scotland-Williamson.
Director of rugby Dean Ryan also took a likening to the Birmingham youngster, while a host of Top 14 clubs are believed to have expressed an interest, with several offering him a professional contract.
The Observer now understands Edwards has clinched a deal at La Rochelle, who have been drawn in Warriors’ group in this year’s European Challenge Cup.
The youngster, who only took up rugby five years ago, has been involved in the Worcester Warriors AASE programme at Worcester Sixth Form College.
The scheme aims to offer young players the chance to combine their further education with their rugby development and has also seen Max Hill benefit from it.
Hill, who is studying biology, economics and philosophy and ethics at the college alongside the AASE programme, has represented England Counties at U18 level, and played in the victory against Ireland.
Ryan Watkins, AASE manager, said: “Overall, it has been a fantastic year on many fronts and this is mainly down to the hard work the lads put in every day, but also the support they get from Worcester Warriors.
“It’s not just about what goes on in training and in matches but also all of the work and support the boys get off the pitch that makes the difference.”
