England centre Ollie to reach landmark as Tigers visit Sixways

Rob George 15th Oct, 2021

ENGLAND centre Ollie Lawrence will make his 50th appearance for Warriors in Saturday’s Gallagher Premiership match against Leicester Tigers at Sixways (kick-off 3pm).

Lawrence made his debut as an 18-year-old in an Anglo-Welsh Cup match against Sale Sharks at Sixways in November 1997 and marked it with a try.

A product of Bromsgrove School, Lawrence progressed from the Three Pears Warriors Academy to the senior squad at Sixways and represented England Under-18s and Under-20s as he did so.

Having been invited to train with England’s senior squad in the summer of 2018, Lawrence won his first England cap as a replacement in the final match of the delayed 2020 Six Nations as a replacement against Italy in Rome.

He has added six more caps since then, the most recent against USA at Twickenham in July when he scored his first international try.

Lawrence, who celebrated his 22nd birthday on the day Warriors beat London Irish in the opening match of the season, will renew his centre pairing with Francois Venter against Leicester.

South Africa international Venter returns to the starting XV as one of five changes to the side that faced Exeter Chiefs last week.

Scrum-half Will Chudley will make his first start since his summer move from Bath Rugby in place of the injured Willi Heinz. Chudley has come off the bench in all four games this season.

Harri Doel will make his first start of the season at full-back with Perry Humphreys recalled on the right wing in place of Noah Heward who suffered a quadriceps injury at Exeter.

The only change in the pack is on the openside flank where Sam Lewis returns.

There will be eagerly-anticipated home debuts for British and Irish Lions and Scotland pair Duhan van der Merwe and Rory Sutherland who both played at Exeter last week.

On the bench, scrum-half Gareth Simpson and England Under-20s fly-half Fin Smith are included in the squad for the first time this season. Smith has been recalled from a loan spell with Ampthill in the RFU Championship.
