CRICKET: WORCESTERSHIRE batsman Tom Fell has become the fifth player in a month to sign a new contract at New Road.

The 21-year-old, the county’s leading run-scorer in the LV = County Championship this season, has put pen to paper on a three year deal up until the end of the 2018 campaign.

Fell had one year remaining of his current contract but has joined Joe Clarke, Ed Barnard and Joe Leach and Ross Whiteley in committing his long-term future to Worcestershire.

Hillingdon-born Fell broke into the first team during the 2013 season and made a superb start to 2015 with 114 against County Champions Yorkshire at New Road and then a career best 143 against Middlesex at Uxbridge.

“I think it’s great that so many young guys have signed new contracts and good for the future of the club and I think everyone is really excited at the moment,” said Fell.

“It is an exciting time having such a good group of young players so hopefully we can take the club forward.”

Worcestershire start a four-day match against Durham on Monday at Chester-le-Street.
