Gold on the game - Tigers

Worcester Editorial 24th Nov, 2017   0

I THINK the past week can be summarised as the good, the bad and the ugly.

The Good – Warriors finally have their first Premiership win of the season, and what a win it was.

An all-round performance which was topped off with a sensational Bryce Heem hat-trick. Also, director of rugby Gary Gold, Francois Hougaard and Ryan Mills were back at Sixways.

The Bad – Not so much bad, but unfortunate. Veteran lock Donncha O’Callaghan announced at this week’s press conference that he will make a decision on his future when his contract ends in May – but will be putting his family first when making that decision. Read from that what you will..

The 38-year-old skippered Worcester to Premiership survival last season and has been an influential figure at the club. If he does hang his boots up in May, it would be an honour to have him do so at Worcester.

The Ugly – Next up, Leicester Tigers at Welford Road, a place Warriors haven’t won in 14 attempts dating back to 1895. Statistics are made to be broken right?

During the press conference, Gold was asked if he felt his side could avoid a relegation scrap after finally climbing off the foot of the table..

And what does he make of the Tigers?

Last week also saw the return of scrum-half Francois Hougaard. He told the Observer how it felt to be back..

Kick-off at Welford Road is 3pm.
