WARRIORS’ new winger Tom Howe is itching to showcase his speed on Sixways’ artificial surface.
The club returned to pre-season training last week and were put through their paces as they took part in gym sessions and a series of fitness tests out on the pitch.
Howe, who has just joined the the squad having signed from last season’s Aviva Premiership finalists Wasps, is confident the artificial surface will help him create holes and exploit the opposing forwards.
The 21-year-old, who has been a regular through the England age-groups in recent seasons, having helped the under-20s to the Junior World Championship title last year, admitted despite having only just joined up with his new teammates, he has already settled in.
“My first day was great and the players have been very welcoming. A lot of the squad has remained so there’s already a tight bond here. They’ve all been good to me and helped me to settle in. Hopefully we’ll become a close unit.
“The facilities at Sixways are outstanding and the pitch and the gym are fantastic. It’s great to work in such a good environment.
“Being a back I think the pitch will suit me well with its fast surface as opposed to the scrum. I’ll be able to put my foot down. I’m not the biggest bloke, so I have to use my speed and work rate. I like to get off my wing and make holes by trying to exploit the forwards around the rucks.”
Warriors have five weeks of training before they play their first pre-season match against Hartpury College at Sixways, on Saturday, August 12.
