Injuries add to City woes

WORCESTER City manager Carl Heeley has said he is unlikely to bring in any new faces despite injuries to two of his key players.

Graham Hutchinson, suffered a recurrence of an ankle injury and George Williams went off with a back problem in the 4-1 defeat at Aldershot in the FA Trophy on Saturday.

With four games in 11 days over the festive period, Heeley said he was feeling the strain with a slowly-depleting squad and admitted adding players at this time of the year was a difficult task.

“We have got a budget to work to,” he said. “I would love to get three or four players in as I think we will need them, but it’s not as straightforward as that because we have to balance the books.

“There’s only so much rotation we can do as we don’t have huge options in each position. For example, in centre midfield we have Richard Taundry, Ellis Deeney and Ebby Nelson-Addy, so we know we can’t really rotate that much. It’s a difficult situation.”

With a tricky run of fixtures just around the corner, the City manager is under no illusions of what is required from his players, but believes with the right attitude they can get themselves out of the relegation mire.

“We have proven we can compete with the top sides and beat the top sides,” he added. “We have got more tough games coming up with Harrogate and then Solihull twice over the festive period.

“Certainly none of the four games will be easy, with a local derby as well, and in the New Year we have Telford who we know very well.

“It’s going to be very difficult but if we perform and show the same desire we have done in previous games then I’m confident we can get the points to get us up the league.”

City begin their busy schedule at home against Harrogate Town on Saturday , boosted by the news that both Richard Munday and Shabir Khan are back in contention.
