FT: Gloucester 24-19 Warriors

Worcester Editorial 22nd Sep, 2017 Updated: 23rd Sep, 2017   0

So close to a derby win at Kingsholm, but Gold will have to settle for a point. The eight years of hurt here continues.. thanks for following!

Full-time: Heartbreak at the death! After minutes of battering their way to Gloucester’s tryline and leaving Kingsholm in silence, the hosts clear the danger and deny what was very, very nearly a shock win for Worcester.

80 mins: Worcester have the ball and are making their way into Gloucester’s 22!

78 mins: Gloucester are looking nervous in midfield.. can Warriors force one final chance..

75 mins: PENALTY Warriors – Mills slots the ball between the posts to set up a tense finale.

72 mins: CONVERSION MISSED Warriors – Mills misses the extras.

71 mins: TRY Warriors – Humphreys gets his second! Following pressure from Te’o, GJ van Velze and Josh Adams, the ball is fizzed out wide to Humphreys who crosses with ease.

69 mins: Warriors are working hard to keep Gloucester at bay here. The hosts looked certain to score their fourth try of the night when Willi Heinz broke free, but his pass out wide was superbly swatted away by new boy Jono Kitto.

61 mins: CONVERSION MISSED Warriors – Mills’ kick sails just wide from a tight angle.

60 mins: TRY Warriors – Finally, Worcester have got that try! It comes in impressive fashion too, as Mills’ crossfield kick is caught by Perry Humphreys in the corner, who pounces over the line to ground.

54 mins: Gloucester clear the danger again. Credit to Worcester though, they are creating chances but it just doesn’t seem to be going their way tonight.

52 mins: Gloucester are defending well, but the visitors are still probing for that first try as British and Irish Lion Ben Te’o twists and turns close to the tryline.

50 mins: Warriors have a lineout in the corner, can they make it count..

42 mins: Burns adds the extras to make it an 18-point game.

41 mins: TRY Gloucester – that didn’t take long. Fans are still returning to their seats as Billy Twelvetrees crosses under the posts following a quick-fire break.

40 mins: And we’re off..

Half-time: Gloucester’s healthy lead has been dented slightly as we enter the break at 17-6, but they will be the much happier of the two sides as it stands. Warriors have struggled to cope with the hosts’ attacking threat, especially in the early stages, but they are still very much in this fixture. Second half resumes shortly, don’t go anywhere..

38 mins: PENALTY Warriors – Mills reduces the deficit to 11 points with another successful kick.

36 mins: Denton takes a massive hit as Warriors keep trying to press forward near Gloucester’s 22.

34 mins: Gloucester have dominated for large periods of this first half and have had chances to be further in front, but the visitors are the team attacking as we approach half-time. A score now would bring them right back into this contest.

32 mins: David Denton makes his Warriors début as he replaces Sam Lewis.

26 mins: PENALTY Warriors – the onslaught of pressure provides three points as Ryan Mills chips over following an offside from Gloucester.

25 mins: The stadium erupts with chants of ‘Gloucester, Gloucester’ as the hosts hold their lines, but the danger isn’t clear yet..

24 mins: Warriors are enjoying their first real bit of possession as they force their way onto Gloucester’s tryline..

17 mins: CONVERSION Gloucester – Burns converts from a tight angle.

16 mins: TRY Gloucester – looks as if it’s going to be a long night here for Gary Gold’s men as Thorley crosses in the far left corner again following a break from Jacob Rowan.

14 mins: CONVERSION Gloucester – Burns adds the extras.

13 mins: TRY Gloucester – Ollie Thorley crosses in the far corner after being teed up by Jason Woodward.

9 mins: PENALTY Gloucester – Billy Burns slots a 40-metre kick to put the hosts ahead.

7 mins: Skipper O’Callaghan has been sin-binned for holding on as Gloucester force early pressure and camp on Warriors’ tryline.  Can the 14-men clear the danger..

Kick-off: We’re under way here in the M5 derby.

So just one minor change to the team that was announced yesterday afternoon, with Jamie Shillcock and Dean Hammond swapping roles at 22 and 23 respectively.

Team news is in..

Replacements: 16 Joe Taufete’e, 17 Ethan Waller, 18 Gareth Milasinovich, 19 Christian Scotland-Williamson, 20 David Denton, 21 Jono Kitto, 22 Jamie Shillcock, 23 Dean Hammond

Hello and welcome to Kingsholm where we are just an hour away from kick-off, as director of rugby Gary Gold’s men go in search of their first Premiership win of the campaign against the Cherry and Whites.

Worcester haven’t won away from home since March last year and in their previous encounter here they found themselves on the receiving end of a heavy 55-19 defeat.

They haven’t actually won at Kingsholm since 2009, so if these stats are anything to go by, Warriors are going to have to do something special under the Kingsholm floodlights tonight.
