FT: Warriors 3-25 Saracens

Worcester Editorial 29th Sep, 2017 Updated: 29th Sep, 2017   0

Full-time: What started out as a valiant Warriors performance was soon deflated in the second half. If Gold’s men had taken the chances on offer in the first 40, it could have been a very different outcome. But reality is it’s a fifth defeat for Warriors with Bath to come and then the European break. Time to panic? Thanks for following.

76 mins: CONVERSION Saracens -British and Irish lion Farrell adds the two points.

75 mins: TRY Saracens – Wyles collects an impressive Owen Farrell kick to ground and kill the game off.

69 mins: We’re approaching the ten-minute mark and Saracens are looking after the ball. They will look to see the game out now. Warriors need to score quick.

58 mins: The momentum has shifted here with Saracens enjoying a lot more possession. At 15 points down, it will be a big task to fightback, but Worcester did it last Friday against Gloucester..

52 mins: CONVERSION MISSED Saracens – Lozowski misses his first of the evening.

51 mins: TRY Saracens – You would have put your money on Warriors to score the next try with the way they’ve played, but it’s Sarries who score after Alex Goode breaks a Chris Pennell tackle out wide and breezes across the line.

45 mins: Both sides grappling for possession as Warriors boot the ball into Saracens territory. This half could be another closely-fought battle.

Half-time: Wow. What a game of rugby. Gold will be immensely pleased with his side’s performance in this first half – easily their best performance of the campaign.

It’s such a shame that all they’ve got to show for it is a Shillcock penalty. They have had so many chances and Saracens have struggled to get the ball out of their 22, something you don’t see often.

Will the hosts pick up where they left off in the second half or will they be ruing those missed chances? Don’t go anywhere.

37 mins: Warriors going close again and the fans here thought they had gone over. They’ve camped on Saracens’ tryline a couple of times but the visitors’ defence is a wall tonight!

33 mins: PENALTY Saracens – Lozowski makes it a ten-point game again.

30 mins: PENALTY Warriors – Jamie Shillcock finally and deservedly gets Worcester on the scoreboard.

27 mins: Turning into an end to end affair here. Worcester are showing real quality and if it stays like this, they will feel very unlucky to enter the interval behind.

19 mins: So much pressure but nothing to show for it as Saracens thwart the danger again.

17 mins: Saracens clear their lines but Worcester storm their way back into Saracens’ 22. They have to make this count.

16 mins: Warriors still camping on the visitors’ tryline! Can they find a way over..

14 mins: Warriors are searching for a quick reply as they camp near Sarries’ tryline.

12 mins: PENALTY Saracens – Lozowski bisects the posts with a long-range effort.

7 mins: CONVERSION Saracens – Alex Lozowski slots the extras.

6 mins: TRY Saracens – Not the start Worcester wanted as Chris Wyles touches down following a spell of pressure.

Kick-off: Here we go..

There’s been a few late changes to Warriors’ starting line-up with Bryce Heem missing out through a thigh injury, so Josh Adams starts on the wing and Chris Pennell at full-back.

Dean Hammond features on the bench.

Warriors side to face Saracens:

15 Chris Pennell, 14 Perry Humphreys, 13 Jackson Willison, 12 Ben Te’o, 11 Josh Adams, 10 Jamie Shillcock, 9 Jonny Arr, 1 Ryan Bower, 2 Jack Singleton, 3 Biyi Alo, 4 Donncha O’Callaghan (C), 5 Will Spencer, 6 David Denton, 7 Alafoti Faosiliva, 8 GJ van Velze

Replacements: 16 Joe Taufete’e, 17 Ethan Waller, 18 Gareth Milasinovich, 19 Pierce Phillips, 20 Christian Scotland-Williamson, 21 Jono Kitto, 22 Sam Olver, 23 Dean Hammond

Hello and welcome to Sixways where we are just 15 minutes away from director of rugby Gary Gold’s side taking on Premiership heavyweights Saracens.

Worcester are still searching for that first Premiership win, will they get it tonight? Are you feeling optimistic?

It’s going to take something special to get one over on the London side, but that’s exactly what happened last year when these sides met at Sixways..
