Mitchell: Still work to be done

WORCESTERSHIRE skipper Daryl Mitchell believes his side need to win at least three more games to reach the T20 Blast quarter-finals.

The Rapids go into tomorrow’s (Friday) West Midlands derby against Birmingham Bears at New Road top of the North Division after winning a club-record five games in a row in the shortest form of the game from their first seven games.

The match is a sell out and another win for Worcestershire will push them closer to making just their fourth appearance in the knockout stages of the competition.

With seven games to go in the group stage, Mitchell has urged his side to keep up their strong form in the hope of setting up a home quarter-final tie at the beginning of August.

“We have won five of the seven games, we are exactly half-way through, and we’ve just got to go into every game trying to win it,” he said.

“The Birmingham game is exactly the same, we just need to try and get those two points.

“We will probably need possibly eight wins to make sure you are in the top four and go through.

“But if you can get nine, 10, 11 wins, you get a home draw as well so there is something on every game you play.”
