Nti signs full-time deal with York City

WINGER Daniel Nti has departed Worcester City to join Vanarama National League newcomers York City.

The 23-year-old midfielder, who had just completed his third campaign with Worcester, has joined The Minstermen on a professional contract to pursue a full-time career in the sport.

The Blue and Whites received £4,000 for the talented winger and a 15 per cent sell on clause should he be transferred again.

Nti made 130 appearances during his three-year stint at City, scoring 44 goals and making 26 assists.

One of his most memorable moments came in the 2014/15 FA Cup, when he scored the equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Scunthorpe United in the second round at Glanford Park, in front of more than 2,000 travelling City fans.

York will be hoping Nti can help them regain Football League status at the first attempt after being relegated last year, following a four-year spell in the forth tier of English football.

Worcester manager Carl Heeley said: “Although it’s disappointing and slightly frustrating to sign and help develop players to then lose them, that’s football and it happens to clubs at all levels.

“It’s another example of the staff at the club who have all played a part in helping Daniel achieve his long term goal and I know he has a strong affection and gratefulness for our efforts and the faith we have shown in him.

“Daniel has given us some great memories and we would like to wish him well at York City. He will always be welcome should he wish to visit us again.”

The Blue and Whites kick off their pre-season schedule this Saturday with an away trip to Stourport Swifts at 3pm.

The club will then face friendlies against Stratford Town, Aston Villa and Leamington and will take on Redditch United in the Worcestershire Senior Cup semi-final, before the new Vanarama National League North campaign starts on Saturday, August 6.
