Resurgent City prepare for Stockport challenge

Worcester Editorial 20th Feb, 2015 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

AFTER booking their spot in the Worcestershire Senior Cup Final in midweek, Worcester City will be looking to continue the winning run when they welcome Stockport County to Aggborough tomorrow (Saturday).

The Blue and Whites fought off a brave Redditch United on penalties on Tuesday with Ryan Boot the hero for the visitors denying the crucial spot-kick at 5-4.

And a somewhat resurgent City will be looking to secure their fourth win in five with the visit of their play-off chasing rivals, who were surprisingly beaten 2-0 away at Bradford Park Avenue in the week.

Worcester will have influential defender Wayne Thomas back in the squad for the game with the Hatters after missing two game through suspension, but Daniel Nti could be out following a knee injury picked up in the Redditch tie.

Kyle Haines will also come back into the fold after he was cup-tied midweek and Aaron Brown looks likely to return following an ankle injury but the game could come too soon for Connor Gater who has a groin strain.

Gater’s absence could leave the door open for promising midfielder Dean Waldron to get another start under his belt after he impressed in Tuesday’s cup tie.

Tomorrow’s encounter will also see a return to Aggborough for former City striker Danny Glover, who joined County from Hednesford earlier this season.

Glover has bagged three goals for Stockpoprt, who sit five points above City in the Conference North, since his arrival and will be looking to add to that tally against his old club.

Alan Lord’s men can propel themselves into the play-off places with a victory at Aggborough, and if other results go there way, but they haven’t tasted victory on the road since January 1, a 2-1 success at Colwyn Bay.

The game will be segregated.
