Rugby round-up: Cavaliers rip Tigers to shreds

A WHIRLWIND first half performance saw Worcester Cavaliers sweep aside Leicester Tigers, with a stunning 52-21 win at Welford Road.

Worcester were simply unstoppable in the opening 40 minutes on Tuesday night as they racked seven tries. Mat Gilbert, Jean-Baptiste Bruzulier, James Stephenson, Max Stelling, Tiff Eden, Perry Humphreys and Richard de Carpentier all crossed the whitewash, while Tiff Eden added six conversions as the Cavaliers found themselves 47-7 in front at half time.

The hosts, who had only a converted try from Oli Bryant to show for their first period efforts, came back in the second half, with tries from Paolo Odogwu and Ed Milne.

But the Cavs, who defeated Gloucester United last week, rounded off a scintillating display with a try from Ravai Fatiaki in the last minute.

WORCESTER Wanderers were on fire at Weston Fields as they scorched over eight times in a 50-7 thrashing of Berkswell and Balsall on Saturday.

A penalty try appeared to have given the visitors a foothold in the match after Callum Patridge and Mike Dodge put Wanderers into a 14-0 lead.

But when the hosts struck back almost immediately through Matt Marksell, Bs failed to recover in this Midlands One West clash.

Leading 19-7 at half time, Worcester hammered home their advantage thanks to tries Partridge, Jake Saddington, Olly Meadows, Gareth Owens and James Priddey.

Meanwhile, Upton-on-Severn suffered 54-19 defeat at the hands of Dunlop in Midlands Three West (South).

WORCESTER Ladies were left to rue their missed chances as Wasps Ladies returned home buzzing with a 27-14 victory.

The hosts were in total control in the opening period as an eight minute try from Sam Bree gave Worcester the early lead before England World Cup winner Ceri Large went over to ensure a 14-7 lead at half time.

But they would have felt disappointed to not come away with more as they were also held up over the line.

Wasps then looked like a different side after the interval as they slotted home two penalties to get within a point of their opponent’s lead.

Worcester’s cause was also not helped when Bree saw yellow, which allowed the away side to exploit extra gaps in defence and score two tries to seal victory.
