WORCESTER Warriors have bolstered their second row options with the signing of Fiji star Tevita Cavubati.

Less than 24 hours after Jonathan Thomas announced his surprise retirement due to epilepsy, director of rugby Dean Ryan has snapped up 6ft 7in lock who he believes will provide key ‘international experience’.

Cavubati, who could be in line to face England on Friday, will join up with his new Sixways teammates after the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

“I’m really excited to be joining Dean Ryan’s squad and a very competitive Warriors side back in the Premiership,” Cavubati said.

“It will be great to follow up the high-level intensity of the Rugby World Cup and to move straight into a Warriors team with a passionate fan base.

“I can’t wait to meet everyone at the Club after the World Cup.”

And Ryan, who recently signed Ireland legend Donncha O’Callaghan, said he was delighted to get the 28-year-old on board.

“Tevita will provide international experience and physicality in a key area,” Ryan said.

“His time playing at the top level will only be beneficial to our young squad as we embark on our Aviva Premiership challenge.

“We’re looking forward to seeing him test himself against the world’s best over the next few weeks and wish him all the best at the World Cup.”
