WORCESTER Wolves have captured the signature of American point guard George Beamon as they look to further bolster their squad ahead of the 2017/18 British Basketball League (BBL) campaign.

The former NBA D-league player has joined the University of Worcester Arena outfit from Iceland Dominos League team, AK Thor Akureyri.

In his previous season with the Scandinavian side, the 26-year-old finished in the top ten league scorers, averaging 20.9 points per game.

The 6ft 4in point guard graduated NCAA Division 1 Manhattan College in 2014 as the fourth highest scorer in Manhattan College history.

He then caught the eye of NBA development league team Oklahoma City Blue, before transferring to fellow D league team Texas Legends during the 2014/15 season.

The experienced player then featured for Plaza Fernando Valerio in the Dominican Republic Santiago League the following season.

“I’m eager to start the season and help lead Wolves to a title. I’ve been training relentlessly and am confident the fans will be pleased with what I bring to the table,” said Beamon.

“I look forward to meeting my coaches, teammates and all of the fans in the Wolfpack,” he added.

Head coach Paul James said: “Beamon is a player who can score in many different ways and I really like that he has this ability to create not only good scoring opportunities for his teammates, but is really good at creating his own scoring opportunities as well.

“He will be equally exciting at the defensive end of the court. Standing at 6ft 4in, he’s a big guard and excellent athlete who takes pride in his defence. He’s a real solid rebounder that has the mental toughness we want to see at Wolves.”

Beamon joins Trayvon Palmer, Ashton Khan, Alex Navajas and Brandon Parrish ahead of the British Basketball All-Stars Championship at The O2 Arena, on Sunday, September 24.

Wolves kick-off their BBL campaign against London Lions at the University of Worcester Arena on Friday, September 29 (tip off 7.30pm).
